Crab Season at Fred Meyer $2.97/lb -Limited Time

12/9 UPDATE: Possibly Last Day of Crab Sale. (Call your Fred Meyer before going, Newberg Fred Meyer reports they expect to run out of crab sometime today)

Dungeness Crab Season
is evidently upon us, as Fred Meyer is selling cooked crab at $2.97/lb for a few days. They are taking a loss at this price (according to employees of years past), and this annual deal will be brief (as the ad says "when it's gone, it's gone") and is dependent upon fishing conditions. We traditionally buy 2 crabs once a year (at this sale). Fred Meyer will clean them if asked (very nice!), then I take them home and shell them in the afternoon. For dinner we have a simple salad of lettuce (Fresh Express on sale at FM for $.78), tomatoes, green onions, cucumbers, thousand island dressing, and french bread (also on sale for $.99/baguette). To heat the crab I just put a little melted butter (Tillamook Butter 2/$5.00 with in ad coupon, page A-11 of the Oregonian) on a serving and microwave it about 15-20 seconds or so (be careful or suffer rubbery crab!). Family has a choice of eating it ON the salad or on the side. I feel like Fred Meyer people may have been watching us, as this sale sounds suspiciously tailor made for our family.
